Venous Stasis Ulcerations

Venous stasis ulcers are typically a wound that develops on the leg or ankle caused by abnormal or damaged veins.  These ulcers are a result of impaired blood circulation, often associated with conditions such as chronic venous insufficiency.

Chronic venous insufficiency, like varicose veins, occur when your leg veins can’t pump blood back up to your heart. Blood then pools in your lower legs, causing your legs to swell. Since the blood can’t flow well in your legs, the swelling may be extreme. This extreme swelling can put so much pressure on your skin that venous ulcers form.

According to the American Venous Forum, venous stasis ulcers affect approximately 500,000 to 600,000 individuals in the United States each year. These ulcers can be both painful and persistent, underscoring the importance of timely and effective treatment.

Healing venous stasis ulcerations is crucial not only for alleviating discomfort but also for preventing complications. Left untreated, these ulcers can lead to infection and compromise the overall health of the affected limb.

Our specialized wound care will focus on addressing the root causes of venous stasis ulcers, promoting optimal healing, and reviewing proper care to improve circulation.
